Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act requires motorists to slow down and pass with caution when approaching police, fire or ambulance vehicles with their red lights flashing, stopped in the same direction of travel. If the road has two or more lanes, the motors must move over to the other line if it can be done so safely.
For a first offence, the fine is $ 400 to $2,000 with 3 demerit points. A Second offence within 5 years has a fine of $1,00 to $4,000 with possible jail time for up to six months and possible license suspension for up to two years.
